Winamp is one of the oldest, most known, used and most supported media players available.
A fast, flexible high-fidelity music player for Windows, Winamp supports MP3 and MP2 audio with it s native Nitrane high-performance decoder as well as CD-audio, MOD, S3M, IT, XM and even SID audio formats. Winamp supports more than 10000 interface skins , 300 visualization plug-ins and CDDB for automatic CD audio title listing, great library tools, portable player integration, and much, much more.
I used Winamp exclusively for years until features found in others became features you had to pay for in Winamp (Pro). But now, because of the way Winamp handles your library, and the easy integration with online radio, video and tv Winamp is worth the install and will most likely become your default media player.
Unless you just have to have high quality ripping, (and there are freeware programs for that) the free version will serve you will.
Note: You should pay attention during the install, as WinAmp will install several promotional icons (AOl, eMusic), unless they are unchecked from the list during installation. I highly suggest that you DO NOT install "Predixis MusicMagic Dynamic Playlists". While great in theory, MusicMagic (creates playlist automatically based on song style/feel), takes a very long time to index a large collection, we're talking maybe days.
Another Note: DO download Jammix from the DSP Plug-Ins at Winamp.com. You can grab it here.
